Sister Marcine Klocko SS.C.M. “87”
Sister Marcine Klocko, SS.C.M., died July 16, 2026, at Sunset Hospice at Emmanuel Center in Danville.
Born in Pittston on Oct. 10, 1938, she was the daughter of Walter Klocko of Exeter and Mary Griglock of Port Griffith.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Pittston. She received a bachelor’s degree in social studies and education from Cabrini College and a master’s degree in theology from Villanova University.
Sister Marcine had a long career as a teacher and was a gifted supervisor of finances for not-for-profit agencies. In South Carolina, as a layperson, she owned the A-1 Cleaning Company in Columbia and later owned and operated the Charleston Candy Company. She also served as bookkeeper for Charleston Catholic School and St. John School in North Charleston.
As a sister, she served in South Carolina as a teacher at St. Jude High School in Sumter and Cardinal Newman School in Columbia, and as assistant principal at Blessed Sacrament School in Charleston.
Sister Marcine then served as treasurer of Maria Joseph Manor and the Meadows at Maria Joseph Manor in Danville from 2008–2013. She later returned to South Carolina to take on shared leadership of the St. Francis Center, an outreach center on one of the South Carolina sea islands populated by descendants of formerly enslaved people, migrant families, and farmers.
There, she was primarily engaged in home-repair projects, especially ramps, roofs, and other major repairs that provided safe and accessible homes and improved the quality of life for many elders, veterans, persons with disabilities, and victims of domestic abuse.
Sister Marcine is survived by her sisters, Irene Gray of Wyoming and Theresa Kemp of Stuart, Florida, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026, in Maria Hall in Danville. The Rosary will begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by the wake service at 11:15 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the sisters’ cemetery.
